Obituary: George Smith, 86, of Medford

Smith died Saturday, Feb. 15.

George A. Smith, of Medford, formerly of Cambridge, died at the Courtyard Nursing Center on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. Born in Cambridge on May 16, 1927 to the late Edward and Gladys (Moge) Smith, he was 86. A sheet metal worker, George was a WWII veteran having served with the U.S. Navy Seabees; he was also a 4th Degree Knight and member Knights of Columbus, Council #109, in Arlington.

Beloved husband of Dorothy “Dot” (Arel) Smith. Loving father of George A. Smith Jr. and his wife Kristin of Littleton, Donna Belanger and her husband Robert of Littleton, Susan Robinson and her husband Stephen of Wakefield and Phillip Smith and his wife Anne of Belmont. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

Funeral from the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., Route 60, Arlington, on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 9 a.m., followed by his funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, 2254 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, at 10 a.m. Services will conclude at Cambridge Cemetery where he will be buried with military honors.

Visiting hours are at the Keefe Funeral Home in Arlington on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 4-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to the St. Patrick Food Pantry, 26R Chestnut St., Watertown, MA 02472.
