Obituary: Kathrine 'Taffy' Poverchuk, Born in Medford in 1923

Poverchuk had 88 nieces and nephews.

Kathrine “Taffy” Poverchuk, a lifelong resident of Medford, died at the Winchester Hospital in Winchester on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. She was 91.

Born in Medford on Jan. 11, 1923, she was the beloved daughter of the late Hudnut and Julia (Jamba) Poverchuk. Kathrine worked as a manager for Fanny Farmer Candies for more that 35 years. She also worked as a seamstress for Shore & Singer in Boston for many years. In her spare time, Kathrine enjoyed sewing, crocheting and some travel. Above all, she loved being with her family.

She will be missed by her loving siblings: Irene Yancowsky of Medway, Mary Poverchuk of Medford, Joseph S. and his wife Mary M. Poverchuk of Medford and Julia and her husband Hubert Norris of Indiana, and 88 nieces and nephews. She was also the loving sister of the late John Poverchuk, Anna Magnanti and Helen Euzukonis.

Her funeral service will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave., Medford, on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. For additional information, please visit www.magliozzifuneralhome.com.
