Obituary: Priscilla May (Darling) Hoff

Hoff died Monday, Nov. 18.

Priscilla May (Darling) Hoff, 92, passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham.

Priscilla was born in Derry, N.H., on March 2, 1921. She attended Pinkerton Academy along with Alan Shepard the astronaut. When she was 15 years old, she moved to Medford where she met the love of her life, Charlie Hoff, at Medford High School.

Priscilla thoroughly enjoyed athletics. She was captain of both the field hockey team and the tennis team during her high school career. She married her high school sweetheart Charlie on March 2, 1941. While her husband served in the Army during World War II, Priscilla worked as a volunteer at the War Plant in Malden. Together they had five children: Ronald, Charles, Nancy, Patricia and David.

After being married for 22 years, her husband Charlie died suddenly at the age of 43. Shortly after his passing, Priscilla began her career as a Senior Secretary at Compugraphic in Woburn. She served the company for 13 years. After her retirement, Priscilla volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford for 25 years.

She is also the past president of the Ladies Sodality at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Medford.

She is survived by her children: Charles J. Hoff and his wife Josephine of York Beach, Maine, Nancy Clancy and her husband Ronald of Quincy, Tricia O’Donnell and her late husband Thomas of Norfolk and David W. Hoff and his wife Louryn of North Attleboro; by her grandchildren: Denise, Debbie, Allison, Ryan, Brett, Sean, John, Brian, Jessica, Kayla, Jeremy, Owen and Olivia; and by her great grandchildren: Alexandra, Gabrielle, Thomas, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Hannah, Kelsie, Nathaniel, Victoria, Benjamin, Isabella, Rowen, Myles, Elizabeth, William and Henry. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Along with her husband, Priscilla was predeceased by her son, Ronald Hoff; by her grandson, John; by her sister, Marion O’Neil; and by her brothers, Myles and Lou Darling.

Priscilla was a mother who put her family first and who let her children see her love and hear her pride. Her legacy of family and faith will be with us forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden, on Friday, Nov. 22, at 9 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 4-8 p.m.
