Obituary: Robert Blaton, 85, of Medford

Blaton died Thursday, Jan. 16.

Robert V. Blaton, 85, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014.

He was born in Chelsea on July 29, 1928, to his parents Marcel (Coppez) and Julian Blaton. Robert was raised and educated in Chelsea. He has been a resident of Medford since 1980. He served his country honorably as a Signalman in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

As a young man, Robert worked at the Ford Motor Plant in Framingham. He later became a truck salesman, retiring from Liberty Chevrolet after many years of service. Robert was an avid boater, snowmobiler, golfer and an all around sports enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Kniolek) Blaton; by his daughter, Gail Gumtow and her husband James of Nashua, N.H.; by his grandchildren, Lauren Karadizian of Chelmsford and Amanda and Samantha Gumtow, both of Tewksbury; and by his sisters-in-law, Jean Blaton of Quincy and Jessie Crump of Dedham. Along with his parents, Robert was predeceased by his brother James Blaton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden, on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 8 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 9 a.m. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 17, from 4-8 p.m.
