Virginia Cleary, Retired Medford Vice Principal, Dies at 91

Cleary died Monday, May 12.

Virginia M. Cleary, 91, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014.

She was born in Malden on Nov. 3, 1922 to her parents, James S. and Rosaleen M. (Toale) Murphy. Virginia was raised and educated in Medford and is a graduate of Medford High School. She has been a resident of Lexington for the past five years and was also a longtime resident of Woburn.

Virginia served as vice principal at the Forest Park School as well as the Franklin School in Medford. She retired after 25 years of service to the students of Medford. Virginia was an avid Red Sox fan who enjoyed making annual trips to spring training.

She is survived by her children: James E. Cleary of Fort Myers, Florida, Elaine Clark and her husband Lawrence of Lexington, William P. Cleary and his wife Doreen of Andover and Robert S. Cleary and his wife Cindy of Manchester, New Hampshire. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband, William J. Cleary; by her sister, Helen M. Jewasko; and by her brothers, Francis J. and Walter T. Murphy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden, on Thursday, May 15, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the mass on Thursday only from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
