Community Corner

“Wynn for All Medford”

There are many reasons why I feel the Wynn Casino not only belongs in Everett but could benefit the community. The proposed Wynn Casino is located on the Mystic River and will have water shuttle service from Logan airport, convention center and many other downtown locations. This water shuttle could extend to Medford Square and the Assembly Row project.   The Wynn brand is well known in both the US and Asia. The Wynn casino will have to clean up their contaminated site, at their expense. This clean up will enhance the Mystic River and extend the river walk. The Wynn team is also committed to correcting some of the traffic issues in the area that already exist.

I believe the surrounding communities of the Wynn Casino will benefit this includes Medford, Somerville, Boston and others. The Wynn does not have any plans of hosting performances or shows instead they feel the surrounding communities already have the best venues. Medford for example has a great theater, The Chevalier Theater. It is the sixth largest theater in the Metropolitan Boston area and could benefit by the Wynn casino. The 1.2 billion dollar Assembly Row project is directly across the river and both walk able and accessible by water taxi/ferry. Currently Assembly Row has the Cavalia Odysseo show running, an amazing production that I am sure the guests of the Wynn would want to see. The Wynn Hotel is going to be a 5 star hotel with easy access via water ferry to the convention center. How many convention visitors are coming to Medford, Somerville, Everett or Malden when they are in town today?

Any one who remembers what the Mystic River looked like even 10 years ago needs to take the T or drive over to Stations Landing in Medford and take a walk along the river. You will not even recognize it. The Wynn Casino will extend this amazing river walk and clean up the Mystic at the same time.

East Boston is changing and has been for a while. If you haven't visited Piers Park or seen Downtown Boston from Webster Street you really should. What East Boston needs is Suffolk Downs to be turned into an innovation district. Suffolk Downs could keep the dog track running and maybe even grab the slot license but an innovation district would do so much more for both East Boston and Revere.

The property size, locations and condition make the Everett property a great location for the casino and the Suffolk Downs property a great location for an innovation district that would greatly benefit East Boston, Revere and the north shore.
