Cab Driver Dies in Zakim Bridge Crash

The crash occurred early Monday morning on I-93 North.

A cab driver was killed early Monday morning when a tractor trailer struck her vehicle from behind on the Zakim Bridge.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the cab driver was stopped in the right lane of I-93 North on the bridge when she was hit shortly after 5:30 a.m.

On Monday afternoon, Massachusetts State Police identified the cab driver as Debra Sarno, 54, of Chelsea. She was driving a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria owned by Malden Taxi, according to police.

Sarno was the sole occupant of the cab and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The truck driver, Joseph Maldonado, 47, of Manchester, Conn., suffered minor injuries and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. His truck is owned by M&M Produce of Hartford, Conn.

State police are continuing to investigate the crash. No charges had been field as of Monday afternoon.
