Driver Shot by State Trooper in Medford Facing Multiple Charges

The driver allegedly accelerated toward the trooper near the Meadow Glen Mall early Friday morning before being shot.

The 19-year-old driver who was shot by a State Police trooper early Friday morning near the Meadow Glen Mall is facing multiple charges, according to Boston.com.

The driver, Stephen Cabrera, of Haverhill, allegedly accelerated toward the trooper after a traffic stop at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, according to the report. Cabrera remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries; his passenger, who was also shot by the trooper, was treated and released, according to the report.

The shooting occurred near Locust Street and Mystic Valley Parkway (Route 16), near the Meadow Glen Mall entrance.

According to Boston.com, Cabrera is facing the following charges: assault with a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of a Class D drug, operating after revocation of registration, speeding, a marked lanes violation, failure to stop for police and failure to stop at a red light.

The trooper, who works out of the Medford barracks, had not been identified by authorities.
