The suspect is still at large.

Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed an Elk Grove florist at gunpoint.

The crime happened around 11:30 a.m. Monday at Nina's Flowers and Gifts, 8517 Elk Grove Blvd.

Police say a man entered the store and aimed a handgun at the store's owner. The shop keeper handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect ran from the scene, according to an Elk Grove Police Department crime log.

No one was injured during the robbery, police said.

Police described the suspect as "a Caucasian male adult, 20-25 years of age, 5-foot-7, 150 pounds, with dark hair. The suspect was wearing dark sunglasses, a black hooded jacket and blue jeans."

Anyone with information on the crime can call the department at (916) 627-3333 or report a tip online.

This could have turned ugly, and innocent people could have been killed. I urge anyone who can legally do so, to become proficient with a fire arm and get a concealed carry weapon permit. It is a long process and a huge responsibility, but we need good citizens with guns who know how to use them. Lets take back our city.

Right, because it's OUR job to be vigilantes and stop robberies like this from happening. Brandishing a fire arm in a situation like this is how things turn ugly and innocents get killed. Let the POLICE do THEIR job. If you want to stop things like this in progress, become a cop. Otherwise, you are just a vigilante.

Patchreader, you are reading into my post. I never wrote anything about it being our job to stop crime. I agree let the police do thier job. The reason I urge getting a CCW permit is for self protection. If you just so happened to be in that shopping center, and the suspect decides to kill, the police will be responding to a murder. They will not be there to protect you.

Meanwhile, EGPD hell bent on catching people speeding on streets that need to have their speed limits raised ANYWAY. Would rather see routine patrols in all public shopping area. I think a city ordnance forcing all of these public shopping areas be equipped with high definition video surveillance systems to help deter criminals would be helpful. BTW - When the criminals believe shop owners are armed... criminals will go elsewhere.
