Local Postal Worker Indicted for Stealing Thousands of Letters, Christmas Gifts

A local postal worker, who allegedly stole over 7,000 pieces of mail, including Christmas gifts, has been indicted, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Steven Bozzi, 36, of Malden, allegedly stole the mail from residents of Malden, Somerville, Medford and Melrose. He was indicted on the following charges: breaking into a depository, larceny over $250 by a single scheme and possession of burglarious tools, according to the district attorney’s office.

If Bozzi’s name sounds familiar, he was arrested on these charges in February. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, June 25, in Woburn Superior Court.

Bozzi allegedly took the mail over a period of months, including the holiday months.

Police first suspected him in late January after he attempted to use a gift card at a Malden business that was registered to someone else. Postal investigators then discovered he was accessing mailboxes that were not on his route, authorities said.

After Bozzi’s arrest, police found 7,689 pieces of mail in his home – 5,156 of the pieces had been opened, authorities said. The stolen mail included a computer, six cellphones, a Kindle and more than 20 gift cards, driver’s licenses and ID cards, according to authorities.

All of the unopened mail was appropriately delivered, authorities said.

Anyone who believes their mail may have been stolen are asked to file a report with the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General by emailing their name, address, the date the mail was sent, the specific contents of the items mailed and the items’ value to prossi@uspsoig.gov.
