Reported Stolen Vehicle Pursuit in Medford Overnight

One suspect reportedly in custody.

UPDATE, 8:45 a.m.: State Police Trooper Nicole Morrell, a department spokeswoman, was unable to provide details on the individual taken into custody or what they were charged with Thursday morning.

Morrell said the vehicle was originally heading eastbound on Route 16 in Medford, crossed into Everett and then turned around to head west on Route 16 back into Medford near Wellington Station.

After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended in the parking lot of Kelly's, according to Morrell.

ORIGINAL STORY: According to emergency communications, Massachusetts State Police took a male into custody early Thursday morning after a stolen vehicle pursuit turned into a foot pursuit near Wellington Station in Medford.

At 2:11 a.m., emergency communication reports indicated troopers began a pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Route 16 in Medford in the area of Kelly's coming up on Wellington Circle.

The vehicle reportedly then stopped on Route 16 near Wellington Circle, followed by the beginning of a foot pursuit at River Edge Drive near the T station.

A male party was reportedly taken into custody a short time later, after which state police requested a K-9 to the scene because the suspect possibly threw "something" into the wood line when he took off on foot, according to the communication reports.
