Two More Arrested in Connection to Alleged Beatings, Extortion at Construction Office

Three people face charges in all.

Two more men now face charges in connection to alleged beatings, threats and extortion attempts at a Medford construction company's office earlier this month.

Timothy Hogan, 44 of Saugus was arrested Monday and William Albright, 40, of Medford was arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from the June 19 incident at NEQ Construction's office on Riverside Avenue. James Morando, 52, of Swampscott was previously arrested on charges stemming from the incident.

Witnesses who work at NEQ construction's office at 427 Riverside Ave. told police that the men entered the business Tuesday at about 5:30 p.m., shoved a man aside who tried to greet them, then punched and kicked two other men who worked there and demanded $10,000 in "commission fees."

Morando threatened to kill one of the alleged victims' child, and Hogan held a pen to another victims' eye and forced him to sign paperwork, according to a police report.

One of the alleged victims had to be treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital as result of the beating, police said. One police report also mentioned a fourth man, who came in toward the end of the incident.

In a brief statement to police, Morando said he went to the office seeking money owed to him, but things went "haywire" when one of the alleged victims pulled out a gun.

Police were able to establish probable cause to arrest Morando the night of the incident, but it took a little longer to positively identify Hogan and Albright, according to a press release from Medford Police Lt. Paul Covino. Hogan was arrested Monday and Albridge was arrested at his Medford home Tuesday, Covino said.

Each is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, extortion by threat of injury, assault to intimidate, assault and battery and threat to commit a crime.
