Councillor: Medford Side Streets Need More Sand, Salt

Do you agree?

City Councillor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said at Tuesday’s meeting that Medford’s side streets were “unacceptable” and needed more sand and salt after Saturday night’s snowstorm.

“The Main roads were pretty good, but the side streets were a sheet of ice,” she said.

Lungo-Koehn said the ice was an inch or two thick in some areas.

“South Medford was awful,” she said. “North Medford wasn’t great either.”

At her request, the council passed a resolution to notify the city’s Department of Public Works acting commissioner, Paul Gere, of the issue as soon as possible.

Other councillors, including Robert Penta, said they also received numerous complaints from residents on the conditions of the roads.

Penta said he heard rumors that the city doesn’t have enough salt, but Councillor Paul Camuso said he spoke with Gere and those rumors are false.
