Patrick on the Green Line Extension: 'I Want This Project to Happen'

After officially throwing his support behind Warren in her bid to unseat Republican Sen. Scott Brown Wednesday, Patrick answered brief questions from Somerville Patch about his position on the Green Line extension.
The governor affirmed his support of the transportation project.

"I want the project to happen … and it's obligated [to happen]," he said.
He said federal rules require the state to have a clear plan for completing the project in the , an important report that outlines future federal transportation spending.

Some public officials have argued it's important to begin construction on the project while Patrick is still in office.
Rep. Michael Capuano is one of them. Speaking to the in January, the congressman said that whoever replaces Patrick as governor may have a different set of priorities that could put the Green Line project in jeopardy. Patrick's second term in office ends in 2015.
"Anyone here tell me who the next governor's going to be? Because I don't know," .
