A Medford group that supports Wynn Resorts’ $1.2 billion casino proposal just over the Mystic River in neighboring Everett recently formed.

“Wynn for All Medford” is a resident group aimed at promoting the benefits of the casino and adjacent hotel and entertainment complex, according to a recent release from the group.

“Everywhere we go, people are excited about the prospect of a Wynn resort because they are familiar with the brand and the positive impact this project will have on the City of Medford,” Jay Campbell, who’s labeled as a third generation Medford resident and member of the McGlynn Elementary School PTG, is quoted in the release.

Bill Carr Jr., a “third generation resident of Medford and youth sports advocate,” added, "This project has the potential to revitalize the entire Mystic River. We believe this destination resort will complement existing and proposed development all along the waterfront, and will spur additional investment."

Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn and the Medford City Council have been vocal opponents of the proposal, as have Somerville city officials.

Wynn for All Medford will work closely with a similar group in Everett, Everett United, and more community groups are expected to form, according to the release.

In June, Everett voters overwhelmingly backed the project, 86.5 to 13.5 percent, allowing it to move forward. The casino proposal is one of three being considered by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission in the eastern part of the state – East Boston and Milford being the other two. A decision is expected in the first half of 2014.
