Medford Among Nation's 'Hottest Up-and-Coming Neighborhoods,' Says Redfin

The real estate website says Medford is "a highly desirable neighborhood for those who really want an affordable, single-family home."

Redfin, a real estate website, named Medford as among the country's "hottest up-and-coming neighborhoods" for 2013, according to a recent post on its blog.

Redfin's post says, "For 16 markets across the country, Redfin’s local real estate agents collaborated with our analytics team to identify the neighborhoods where we expect prices to rise the most this year."

The post continues to say, "What makes a market likely to heat up? Our agents frequently cited new restaurants, a hip local vibe, good schools, and convenient commutes among the factors that will drive buyers to these areas."

In determining "hot" neighborhoods, the online real estate company also crunched some numbers, looking at data about active listings, sales volume, price per square foot, and the ratio of sale price to list price.

You can read the entire Redfin post here.

Redfin declared 2013's "top three neighborhoods by metro area." While Somerville was listed as Metro Boston's top neighborhood, Medford was second while Waltham was third.

On an amusing aside, the blog has photographs of each city and neighborhood mentioned. What's the photograph for Medford? A shot of the Tufts University campus taken at the Powder House Rotary … in Somerville.

Just wait until all these newcomers get to town and learn that our city council engages in weekly fisticuffs and shouting contests. : ) They will tell their friends they live in Arlington.

Maybe the City should start charging admission to these meetings and set up a concession stand in the Rotundra with snacks and "player" stats brochures like they do at Fenway Park. It might be a great way to raise extra revenue for the City. But look on the bright side, if Medford is "up & coming", then we're better off here than in the "down & going" places people are leaving to come here.
