Eighteen 7th and 8th grade students embarked on a sailing excursion aboard “Fame,” a replica 1812 privateer that sails from Salem Harbor.  Students took turns on the rudder, hoisting sails, tying knots, and charting the course.  After lunch, the trip continued with a tour of 19th Century sailing ship “Friendship.”  The tour detailed life aboard a sailing ship and the old China trade that established Salem as a leading city of the early Republic.
