Girls Lacrosse Continues Roll Through Rain
The Mustangs girls lacrosse team continued its fine season last week—as did the boys—despite the solid five days of rain. Here's a look at how all the locals fared.
With the spring season winding down, it seems like there hasn’t been a week yet untouched by the irksome hand of seasonal precipitation.
Last week was no different.
The sound of tearing paper could be heard across Medford, as coaches simultaneously ripped up their schedules, which the rain rendered largely useless. Despite all the postponements, some Mustang squads were able to get some action in and continue their march towards the postseason.

Mustangs girls lacrosse continued its fine season, taking two-of-three last week to improve to 15-4. The Greater Boston League champs began the week with a 13-3 loss against super-tough Andover of the Merrimack Valley Conference, but quickly bounced back to form. On May 17, Medford earned a 15-7 win against non-league foe Watertown. Olivia Timmins and Madie Forcier paced the Mustangs attack with five goals apiece. May 18 saw Medford host the MVC’s Haverhill Hillies at Edgerly Field on senior night, and squeak out a narrow 16-15 win. The Mustangs honored nine seniors, including Forcier, Alana Viveiros, Michaela Botticelli, Ericka Silva, Taylor Mason, Kathleen Harding, Deanna Cavallaro, Katie O’Brien and Leigh Williams.
On the boys side of the field, the Mustangs were able to get in two games and used the opportunity to paste Lynn English by a 12-3 margin in a non-league tilt on May 16, before succumbing to Brookline 9-3 on May 19.
The Mustangs were washed out on both the baseball and softball diamonds all week, so both squads will have to wait to resolve the big questions they have yet to answer. Namely, can the Mustangs (9-4, 3-3 GBL) softball team get its tenth win to secure entrance to the MIAA Tournament, and can the baseball team come back to nip Everett for the Greater Boston League crown?
Medford (11-2, 4-2 GBL) faces Everett (10-2, 6-0 GBL) today at 1pm at Playstead Park.
The same was the case with tennis and track, as the rain washed away all the scheduled games last week. The Mustangs will be back in action this coming week across all arenas of competition—weather permitting—as the march towards the postseason continues.
