Nerd Culture and You

Hello, Massachusetts.

I'd like to introduce myself, if I may -- My name is Jason Bassett. I was born and raised here in Medford, Massachusetts up in the Fulton Height area. I've in Medford all of my life, sans the four years where I traveled to Arizona to gain a better understanding of myself and the people around me. Not to mention gain a good education for myself; they usually call that college.

I mention that because, just like all of you, I am human -- I think. Who knows, really? I could be an alien from Mars who was transported for the richest resources this world has ever know.

...I wish I was that important.

What I do know is, is that we're all here finding out who we are and for a lot us that like something, that usually tends to be something a nerd would think about. Quite frankly, I'm okay with that. I'm okay with thinking of things outside of my comfort zone. I'm okay with discussing things that are difficult for me to understand (like politics, I hate politics).

However, with that in mind, nerds tend to get a bad rap for being a little too much into what they like and they get made fun of because of it. Is that really fair to an individual? If you like sports, do many people make fun of your for that? I bet you don't hear that often. But, I know that being a sports fan is a form of nerdism. It's true, if you're into Fantasy sports, do you not focus a lot of your time on that? Do you not know most of the Impossible Dream Boston Red Sox team? Do you remember stats for the Bruins win in 2011?

That is a form of nerdism. All of us have it and all of us should embrace the fact that we are all nerds.

It should be time for all us to embrace our inner nerd, because at the end of the day, we all have something to nerd out on.
