The city's building department inspects plans and properties that are seeking a building permit. Massachusetts state law requires anyone who is looking to construct, reconstruct, alter, repair, remove or demolish a building or structure or change the use or occupancy of a building is required to pick up a building permit. It takes up to 30 days to obtain one. Paul Mochi is the city's building inspector. The office is located on the first floor of City Hall.
