An off-duty police officer intervened and most likely saved the alleged victim from injury, according to police.
A Medford man allegedly threatened another driver with a knife during a road rage incident Monday afternoon in Malden. Derek M. Mozuch, 24, of 68 Fells Ave., was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, a marked lanes violation and threatening to commit a crime. Off-duty Malden Police Officer Rob Selfridge saw Mozuch chasing another motorist with a knife at about 12:45 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Charles Street, according to Malden Police Lt. The fund will provide scholarships to Medford students.
A scholarship fund has been created in memory of Krystle Campbell, the 29-year-old Medford native and Arlington resident who was one of three people killed in the bombings at the Boston Marathon. The Krystle M. Campbell Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to Medford students, according to a city release. On Saturday, June 1, the Medford Police Department will play the Beverly Police Department in a hockey game to benefit the fund at O’Keefe Rink in Peabody. After the game, the fundraiser will continue at Spotlight Tavern in Beverly. Tickets can be purchased for $20 in advance (children free) and will include entrance to both the game and tavern. Medford resident Timothy McDaid avoided jail time for embezzling close to $1 million dollars, a decision that one official said was 'discouraging.'
A Medford man who recently pled guilty to embezzling close to $1 million will not serve any jail time, something that reportedly is not sitting well with some according to a local news station. FOX 25 News reported that Timothy McDaid, who embezzled $910,000 combined from the Maynard retirement fund and Asperger's Association of New England in separate cases, pled guilty to charges of larceny over $250, uttering a false check and forgery. According to the news station, prosecutors asked for seven to nine years in prison for McDaid, but Superior Court Judge Kathe Tuttman instead opted to give him a suspended statement that allows McDaid to stay out of jail if he remains on good behavior. The men solicited and took bribes and then let the cab drivers cut in line, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Medford’s Donald Potts and four other Massport employees allegedly solicited and took bribes from cab drivers at Logan Airport in exchange for letting them cut other taxis in line, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. The men were indicted Tuesday by a Suffolk County Grand Jury. The men are all Ground Transportation Unit agents, or “cab starters,” at Logan. Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said the men “exploited a position of power to line their pockets.” “It’s hard enough to make a living without having to grease a palm or pay a bribe,” he said. The two individuals arrested Monday in connection with a human trafficking enterprise that spans several area communities, including Medford, were arraigned Tuesday in Somerville District Court, according to a press release from Attorney General Martha Coakley. Xiu J. Chen, 32, of Medford, and Ronald Keplin, 57, of Woburn, were arraigned on the following charges: Both Chen and Keplin pleaded not guilty to the charges at their arraignment, according to the release. With the announcement that a Medford woman and Woburn man were arrested for running a prostitution ring, police said Monday was a major victory in shutting down the alleged pattern of "modern day slavery."
