Alleged Serial Cyber Predator Pleads Guilty to Numerous Charges

A 21-year-old Tewksbury man who allegedly coerced underage girls into sending him nude photos and then, in some cases, blackmailed them to have sex with him has pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including rape of a child by force, according to a Tuesday release from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. A 15-year-old Medford girl was the first victim to come forward against Thomas Hutchinson in July 2011. Hutchinson pleaded guilty in Woburn’s Middlesex Superior Court in two cases in which he was charged with rape of a child by force, rape, assault with intent to rape a child, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 (two counts), indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 (two counts), attempted extortion (four counts…

Civilian Helps Officer Arrest Medford ATM Armed Robbery Suspect

Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis praised the bravery of Officer John Byrne and the bystander who helped police arrest a man suspected of two armed ATM robberies, one of which was in Medford.

Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis credited "tremendous police work" and an "informed, alert citizen" for the Sunday morning arrest of an armed man suspected in two gunpoint ATM robberies in Medford and Malden last month.  Jason M. Mahoney, 34, of Malden, was stopped by police in Malden after a witness reported a man matching the suspect's description near Eastern and Franklin Avenues - curiously, by the same Bank of America ATM where a woman was robbed two weeks ago.  "The dispatcher...received a call from a passerby who said he observed a male he recognized from Malden Patch and As Malden Turns" as the robbery suspect, Molis said. Medford Man Faces Shoplifting Charge in Sudbury

Thanks to the keen eye of a female shopper, an alleged shoplifter from Medford was stopped on Friday, June 7, in Sudbury before taking offer with more than $200 worth of items. According to acting Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix, the female shopper alerted management at Sudbury Farms about a man wearing a suspicious black trench coat. After responding officers arrived, they checked the man's jacket and found it had been altered to conceal merchandise. Sudbury Farms management scanned the items found in the coat and the total value came in at more than $200. After completing the investigation, officers arrested Richard Capra, 67, of 46 Thatcher St., Medford, and charged him with shoplifter more than $100 by concealing the merchandise. He was…

Police Searching for Armed ATM Robber

Medford and Malden police say a man used a gun to rob two separate ATMs last week.

Medford and Malden police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who allegedly robbed two ATMs at gunpoint, according to a MyFoxBoston.com report. The man allegedly pointed a gun at and robbed victims at the Bank of America ATM in Malden at 1:43 a.m. Sunday, May 26, and at the Bank of America ATM at 4110 Mystic Valley Parkway in Medford on Wednesday, May 29, according to the report. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Medford Police Department at 781-393-3487. Bank of America is offering a reward for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest, the news channel reports.

Middlesex County Sheriff Breaks Up Assault

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian stopped an assault in progress on Thursday immediately after he participated in the Harvard University graduation ceremony, according to the Boston Herald. Cambridge Police arrested Vincent Breveleri, 42, of Roslindale, on Thursday after Koutoujian, a Waltham native, broke up an assault in which Breveleri was allegedly involved. Police charged Breveleri with assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Koutoujian, who had just embraced Oprah Winfrey in a hug during the ceremony, noticed a man yelling at a woman. Koutoujian watched the pair, at first thinking they were just having an argument. Sheriff’s Office Warns of Telephone Scam

The scammer claims he's from the Middlesex Sheriff's Office.

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a telephone scam in which the scammers pretend to work for the Sheriff’s Office and demand money.  There have been at least two scam calls reported to the office. “We want citizens to be aware of this scam so they can properly protect themselves,” said Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian. One person told the Sheriff’s Office that a man called and identified himself as working for the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office. The caller said he was collecting on an outstanding loan and demanded the resident’s bank and credit card information or he would put the person under arrest. “These are not legitimate calls,” said Sheriff Koutoujian. “Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Deputies will never demand …

UPDATED: Overturned Tanker Released More Oil Than Originally Thought

Crews continue working on clean-up of the Mystic River and surrounding areas.

UPDATED, 12:25 p.m.: The majority of the 10,000 gallons of oil in the tanker that overturned Friday afternoon was released from the vehicle and into the nearby area and the Mystic River, according to Massachusetts State Police.  This is much more than the 1,000 gallons of fuel estimate that was reported by State Police Friday night. Though the roadway has been opened this morning, police warn motorists that there may be scattered closures as haz-mat teams continue to work in the clean-up of the area and river. Some of the roadway was removed and repaved Friday night and early Saturday morning, said State Police.  State Police said there were conflicting reports at the time of the type of fuel spilled from the vehicle.
