Cinco de Mayo; Cab Fares Take a Hike; Five Guys Aims to Open in June

Good morning, Medford. Here's five things to know today: Five Guys Eyes June Opening: The burger chain is nearing the end of the licensing phase, and is looking to open its new joint in Station Landing sometime in June. Cab Fares Set to Rise: The city council approved increases to cab rates in the city. Rates will change from $1.60 for the first eighth of a mile to $2.40, and from 45 cents for each mile after that to 55 cents. Lacrosse, Baseball and Tennis at Home Today: The boys lacrosse team plays at 4 p.m., Baseball hosts at 4 p.m., and girls tennis takes on also at 4 p.m. Cinco De Mayo at John Brewer's: Head to the bar and grill right over the city line in Malden for a Cinco De Mayo celebration and fundraiser for an Avon Walk team …

Here's five things to know today: Are You A Music Man (or woman)?: Seaside Productions will hold auditions   for ages for its upcoming  production of "The Music Man" at Chevalier Theatre. The auditions take place today and tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Chevalier. Be ready to sing 16 bars of a song that best demonstrates your voice, and bring sheet music in the correct key. Story Time for Kids: Take the kids to the library at 10 a.m. today for a story and simple craft project. The regularly scheduled story time is intended for kids ages 2 to 5. Good morning, Medford. Here's five things to know today: School Gets Out Early: Public schools in Medford will have an early release today. High Schoolers and Middle Schoolers get out at 12 p.m., and elementary schoolers will be released at 1:30 p.m., according to the school department. Wife Confessed to Fatal Stabbing in South Medford: An Exchange Ave. woman admitted to inflicting a fatal stab wound to her husband's chest Sunday night, after an argument in which she found a hickey on his chest, police said. Good morning, Medford. Here's five things to know today: Snow Emergency Lifted: The snow emergency put in place Wednesday at 6 p.m. was lifted at 6 a.m. Friday. That means it's okay to park on the other side of the street and on emergency access roads, but make sure to leave enough space for emergency vehicles to get by. Trash pick-up Delayed a Day: The snow caused trash pick-up to be delayed a day. Homes typically picked up on Thursday will be picked up today, and homes that usually have trash day Friday should wait until tomorrow. Calm and Cloudy: The snow will give us a break, at least for today. More Snow Possible, Not Likely: Any new snowfall is most likely going to come before 11 a.m. today, then the sun may shine through in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Looking further ahead, there's a 20 percent chance of snow Friday, and 40 percent chance Saturday and Sunday, according to the weather service. Can you spend hours digging out your car? Here's five things to know today: Snow on the Way: Anywhere from 6 to 10 inches could fall starting Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS has issued a winter storm warning, as winds could gust over 30 miles per hour. Trio Arrested During Attempted Theft: Three young men were arrested on Fellsway West trying to take a couch from an apartment building basement. They told police they had purchased the couch on Craigslist, but the owner never sold it to them, police said. Baseball Registration: Babe Ruth League baseball registration is under way in Medford. I thought learning, at least in the elementary years, was supposed to be creative and fun.
