The store is holding its grand opening ceremony this weekend.
Rob Dilman has a lot of patience. The owner of Bestsellers Cafe has waited since May 2007 -- over five years -- to re-open as renovations to the building snailed along. The store, located on High Street near Governors Avenue, finally held a soft opening last week and will have a grand opening this weekend. As Dilman sat down for an interview Thursday afternoon, he didn't seem bothered by the long wait -- he was just happy to have the cafe open. "It feels nice," Dilman said, sitting at a table by the store's front window. "It doesn’t feel like five years." The bookstore/cafe received its common victuallers license from the City Council Tuesday.
It's been over five years since Bestsellers Cafe last opened its doors for business, but it looks like the end of the hiatus is now almost in sight for the former Medford Square staple. Rob Dilman, the cafe's owner, appeared before the City Council Tuesday night seeking a common victuallers license, which was granted unanimously. A food permit from the board of health is the last obstacle remaining for the bookstore/coffee shop/lunch spot located at 24 High St. to re-open for business. "It’s a fantastic spot and I’m looking forward to getting back into the community," Dilman said Tuesday.
