MHS Girls Hoops Bows Out to Lynn English

Season ends after Lady Mustangs lose 68-34.

The 2012-2013 Medford High School girls basketball team's season came to an end Thursday night. The Lady Mustangs lost their first round match-up at top-seeded Lynn English by a score of 68-34. MHS, the 16th seed in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association (MIAA) North Division 1 tournament, had earned the right to play Lynn English by beating 17th-ranked Chelmsford 52-50 earlier this week at home. Medford girls hoops ended their regular season with a 10-10 record before compiling a 1-1 postseason mark. Elsewhere, the 18th-ranked Medford girls hockey team will head to Salem State University to face second-ranked Beverly/Danvers on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the MIAA Division 1 tournament.

MHS Girls Hoops, Hockey Advance in Tournaments

Mustangs boys basketball bows out with a first-round exit at Andover.

Three Medford High School teams opened their respective Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association (MIAA) tournaments this week, with girls basketball and hockey advancing following their opening round games. The season is over for boys basketball, however, after a first-round loss to Andover. The 16th-seeded Lady Mustangs basketball team hosted 17th-seeded Chelmsford Monday night in the preliminary round of the North Division 1 tournament and won 52-50. Now, they girls will head to play top-seeded Lynn English in the first round of the tournament tonight at 7 p.m. On Wednesday night, the Lady Mustangs hockey team won their preliminary round match-up against Medway/Ashland in the Division 1 tournament at the New England Sports …

MHS Teams Open Tournament Play

Basketball girls play tonight at home, boys tomorrow at Andover. Girls hockey plays Wednesday.

Medford High School will open play in their Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournaments this week, with girls basketball in action tonight. They will participate in the preliminary round of the North Division 1 playoffs at home tonight against Chelmsford at 7 p.m. Medford is ranked 16th in the division after completing their regular season with a 10-10 record. Chelmsford comes in ranked 17th with an 8-10 record. The winner of tonight's contest will travel to face top-ranked Lynn English (20-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, boys basketball will be on the road at the start of their North Division 1 tournament Tuesday.
