Motorists asked to drive slowly and buses expected to run slower Wednesday.
After three days off, Medford schools will be back in session Wednesday, according to an e-mail from Medford Public Schools Superintendent Roy Belson. Schools were closed Friday, Monday and Tuesday due to one of the biggest blizzards in the history of the region. Medford received two feet of snow from the Blizzard of 2013 and the clean-up is ongoing. Belson said that while sidewalks and bus stops are "improved," parents and guardians are being asked "to work with each other to escort young children to school and to wait with them at bus stops. Decision made early ahead of what's expected to be an historic blizzard.

Students will have school March 5 and won't have school April 9 after the change.
Medford Public Schools announced a calendar change Tuesday that will impact the scheduling of a professional development day later this school year. Originally, a professional development day was scheduled for Tuesday, March 5. On their website, Medford Public Schools announced that off-day for students has been changed to Tuesday, April 9. As a result, Medford will have school March 5 and will not have school April 9.

An electronic meal ID system is being put in place Jan. 23.
The Medford School District recently announced upcoming changes to its school meal payment system. Starting Jan. 23, the school meal service in Medford schools will change to an electronic meal ID system. The district said this will replace the need for current paper tickets that can often get lost. Here is more from the school district: Students will continue to use their current ID number or Student ID Card that they have been using. This ID number will stay with the student until he/she graduates. Please encourage your student to make sure they have their ID card and to NOT give out their number. Memorial services will be held today and tomorrow for beloved former Medford public servant, educator, World War II veteran, father and husband Alfred Pompeo, Sr. Medford Public Schools posted a statement on their website yesterday honoring Pompeo's life and service to the community as well as his obituary. Pompeo passed away at 94 this week at his summer home on Drakes Island in Wells, Maine. "Mr. Pompeo was a dedicated educator and public official whose life’s work contributed significantly to the betterment of our community," the school district wrote in the statement.
