Both the girls and boys teams took home Greater Boston League titles.
The Medford High School boys and girls rowing teams were victorious in their quests to win their respective 2013 Greater Boston League Championships last Sunday, according a post on the school website. The Mustangs competed against Malden, Cambridge Rindge and Latin and Somerville for the titles. According to the post, the wins are historic because it's the first time a Cambridge team has been defeated for a GBL title on the girls' side and just the second non-Cambridge winner ever on the boys' side. "This is a big win for a team started just seven years ago with twelve rowers and one coach," according to the school website. "This season the team has almost 60 rowers and three coaches." Season ends after Lady Mustangs lose 68-34.
The 2012-2013 Medford High School girls basketball team's season came to an end Thursday night. The Lady Mustangs lost their first round match-up at top-seeded Lynn English by a score of 68-34. MHS, the 16th seed in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association (MIAA) North Division 1 tournament, had earned the right to play Lynn English by beating 17th-ranked Chelmsford 52-50 earlier this week at home. Medford girls hoops ended their regular season with a 10-10 record before compiling a 1-1 postseason mark. Elsewhere, the 18th-ranked Medford girls hockey team will head to Salem State University to face second-ranked Beverly/Danvers on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the MIAA Division 1 tournament.

Mustangs boys basketball bows out with a first-round exit at Andover.
Three Medford High School teams opened their respective Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association (MIAA) tournaments this week, with girls basketball and hockey advancing following their opening round games. The season is over for boys basketball, however, after a first-round loss to Andover. The 16th-seeded Lady Mustangs basketball team hosted 17th-seeded Chelmsford Monday night in the preliminary round of the North Division 1 tournament and won 52-50. Medford High School will open play in their Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournaments this week, with girls basketball in action tonight. They will participate in the preliminary round of the North Division 1 playoffs at home tonight against Chelmsford at 7 p.m. Medford is ranked 16th in the division after completing their regular season with a 10-10 record. Chelmsford comes in ranked 17th with an 8-10 record. Bill Monbouquette pitched a no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox during his stint in the majors.
Submitted by Medford Public Schools. Medford's own Bill Monbouquette, a former Mustang baseball player who went on to pitch for the Boston Red Sox, was recently recognized for one of his impressive Major League accomplishments. Monbouquette, inducted into the Mustang Hall of Fame in 1988, was recognized by the Hall of Fame this year on the fiftieth anniversary of his no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox. Congratulations to "Monbo" on this special occasion! He continues to be actively involved with Mustang sports and is an inspiration to our student athletes.
