New Real Estate Search Display in Medford Square

RE/MAX Andrew Realty Services has the first such interactive display in Medford.

Last week, RE/MAX Andrew Realty Services at 12 High St. in Medford Square unveiled a new interactive real estate search display on its front window. The electronic display allows people walking by the office to search for real estate listings simply by touching the glass in front of the display. Broker/owner John Veneziano said he'd been working with Revere-based imageSurge to create the display since last November. "While we were working on the process, every time we'd have it on someone from the street would go 'That is tremendous,'" Veneziano said. "We're really excited about it." How Can Medford Square Be Improved?

City Council discussion Tuesday focused on a number of factors.

What started out as a Medford City Council discussion about the Cradock Bridge reconstruction Tuesday turned into a debate about issues surrounding Medford Square. The council will receive a presentation from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation next week on the planned 2014 reconstruction of the historic Medford Square bridge. "This is going to have major, major impact on Medford Square, on the traffic and the business community," said Council President Bob Maiocco. State to Present Cradock Bridge Reconstruction Design

MassDOT will show plans to the Medford council next month, project expected to commence spring 2014.

Designs for reconstruction of the Cradock Bridge in Medford Square to begin in spring 2014 will be presented to the Medford City Council at a meeting next month. According to a statement from Medford's legislative delegation and Mayor Michael McGlynn released Friday afternoon, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will present the plans to the council April 2. Back in 2011, the project was anticipated to cost $2.5 million.  The original bridge was built 1637, rebuilt in 1880 and again in 1909, according to a Medford Historical Society sign on the bridge. Condon Shell, Medford Square to Improve Lighting

As part of the possible $3.2 million interest-free loan from the Massachusetts Water Resources Administration, Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn is proposing lighting improvements for both the parking lot at Condon Shell and Medford Square. During a recent press conference, McGlynn said there have long been discussions about about parking lot improvements but there was previously not enough funding for the lighting. McGlynn said about $100,000 could be spent to put in "10 double-headed poles" that would be decorative lamps to light the parking lot. Meanwhile, McGlynn said the issue in Medford Square is about the strength of the street light illumination. While LED lights were put in last summer, the previous lights "burnt" the inside of the …

A Look Inside the New Bestsellers Cafe in Medford

The store is holding its grand opening ceremony this weekend.

Rob Dilman has a lot of patience. The owner of Bestsellers Cafe has waited since May 2007 -- over five years -- to re-open as renovations to the building snailed along. The store, located on High Street near Governors Avenue, finally held a soft opening last week and will have a grand opening this weekend. As Dilman sat down for an interview Thursday afternoon, he didn't seem bothered by the long wait -- he was just happy to have the cafe open. "It feels nice," Dilman said, sitting at a table by the store's front window. "It doesn’t feel like five years." The store closed when property owner Michael Casoli began building renovations that were originally expected to take six to 18 months. But the project hit a snag with soil problems …

Cradock Bridge to Be Replaced in 2012 or 2013

$2.5 million project is funded through MassDOT.

Work to replace the Cradock Bridge is expected to begin late next year or in 2013, State Representative Paul Donato said Wednesday. Design work on the project is about 50 percent complete, Donato said. The project aims for 90 percent design completion by in spring 2012, with construction in the fall 2012 or spring 2013, he said. The bridge, which carries Main Street over the Mystic River near Medford Square, has been falling apart for years, Donato said, but the need to replace it became apparent with the torrential rain in March 2010, Donato said. Debris floating down the Mystic got caught on concrete barriers beneath the bridge, which were once needed for locks the bridge used to have on its underbelly. The debris contributed to severe …
