Medford City Council will hold a committee of the whole meeting on the subject next week.
The Medford City Council did not vote Tuesday night on a loan order from Mayor Michael J. McGlynn for nearly $3.2 million in water improvements. Instead, the council will discuss the loan order at a committee of the whole meeting next week. The meeting will take place Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. in Room 207 of Medford City Hall. Council President Robert Maiocco said the suggestion the loan order be discussed at the committee of the whole came from McGlynn. Councilor Michael Marks added that he had requested information from the city regarding its use of zero percent finance loans. Mayor Michael J. McGlynn will meet with Boston Mayor Tom Menino and the Massachusetts delegation of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
Medford Mayor Michael J. McGlynn will head into Boston tomorrow and join more than a dozen Massachusetts mayors to discuss ways to move forward with gun reform. The meeting will include Massachusetts mayors who are a part of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group co-chaired by Boston Mayor Tom Menino. According to a press release issued by Menino's office Wednesday, Thursday's meeting will feature discussion on how to "continue to pressure Congress to take action on common sense gun control." The mayors will talk over ways to mobilize constituents and build support for gun reform, the press release said. They will also film a PSA asking for plan to prevent gun violence. Mayor says new DPW facility could be completed by late summer 2014.
The Medford City Council met with Mayor Michael J. McGlynn Tuesday to discuss the findings of a space needs study for the Department of Public Works. The document is expected to provide a guideline for a new DPW facility to be constructed at the location of the dilapidated, soon-to-be-demolished DPW yard on James Street. No cost estimates for the project were given at the Tuesday committee of the whole meeting, but McGlynn said a design firm should be chosen by mid-February. From there, McGlynn said once a contract is in hand, he expects the entire project to be completed within 18 months as part of an "aggressive" timeline. The City of Medford has been chosen as a lead community by the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys (MATA) in their campaign to "End Distracted Driving," according to a statement on the city's website. The MATA will be holding a press conference at the State House Feb. 4 to announce its participation in the effort. Medford Mayor Michael J.
