Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn will announce his intention to seek re-election Tuesday evening at Carroll’s Restaurant in Medford Square, according to an email from his spokeswoman. All are welcome at the event, which is set to go from 6-8 p.m. In addition to announcing his re-election bid, McGlynn will also reflect on his vision for the future of Medford. McGlynn has been the city’s mayor since 1988.

Michael McGlynn said a casino could cause headaches and seeks mitigations if it becomes a reality.
Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn said a casino in neighboring Everett would cause headaches for the city and seeks mitigation if the proposal becomes a reality. McGlynn said he started meeting with consultants for Wynn Resorts, the group proposing the casino, according to a report on Boston.com. The casino is proposed to go on a former Monsanto chemical plant in Everett. McGlynn worries about increased traffic in and around Wellington Circle, which sits about a mile from the potential casino site, according to the report. An historically harsh winter has put Medford in the red. At a press conference Friday, Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn announced the city has a $732,000 deficit in its winter operations budget for the current fiscal year. "That's probably an average figure for most of the communities of our size around us," McGlynn said. It's due to what McGlynn said was the fifth-most severe winter in terms of overall snowfall for Medford since 1892, the first year it was recorded. McGlynn said the city originally budgeted around $300,000 for winter operations, and the city was over budget even before the massive February blizzard that dropped two feet of snow on the city. Ceremony will take place this morning at City Hall.
Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn will be proclaiming April as "Donate Life Month" for the city at a ceremony this morning, according to a release from the New England Organ Bank. Mike Slama, a heart recipient, will be on hand to thank McGlynn this morning. According to the mayor's office, Medford resident Cornelius Murphy will also be speaking about a life-saving transplant his daughter. New appointees to boards and commissions are familiar faces to the city.
During Friday's mayoral press conference at Medford City Hall, Mayor Michael McGlynn introduced three new appointees to city commissions and boards. The new appointees are familiar faces to Medford folks. Those new members are: Neil Osborne, Community Development Board; John Veneziano, Civic Auditorium and Convention Center Commission; and Stephen Pompeo, Board of Assessors. McGlynn welcomed the new appointees, saying that when others leave positions there comes a time to "refresh and replenesh" the city's appointed boards and commissions.

City used the funds to save 20 jobs in the fiscal year 12 budget.
On Thursday the City of Medford the elimination of $1.2 million of debt as a result of Gov. Deval Patrick signing Senate Bill 2474 into law. According to a statement posted on the city website, the bill will prevent Medford from having to repay $1.2 million taken from the Water and Sewer surplus of $6.5 million in 2011. The bill was sponsored by state Sen. Pat Jehlen and state Reps. Paul Donato, Carl Sciortino and Sean Garballey. The bill came as a result of a home rule petition by Mayor Michael McGlynn and Medford City Council members. "This was in order to save approximately 20 jobs and secure city services in the fiscal year 12 budget,” McGlynn said in the statement.
