Three Disorderly Conduct Arrests in Medford

The following is a selective list of entries from the Medford Police log from Friday, May 3 through Monday, May 6, 2013 and any arrests recorded during that time.  Charges are alleged. Locations, times and events appear as they are recorded by police. Two juveniles were arrested Friday, May 3 on Salem Street. One was charged with disorderly conduct, the other with disorderly conduct and destruction of property over $250. Donald Rusco, 44, 84 Alexander St., Medford, was arrested Saturday, May 4 on Capen Street and charged with disorderly conduct. Car Strikes Medford CVS, Three Injured

Boston Herald reports a Honda sedan went through the brick wall of the pharmacy.

The Boston Herald reported a silver Honda sedan drove off the road on Route 16 at Wellington Circle in Medford Friday afternoon, going through the brick wall of a CVS Pharmacy and injuring the driver and two people inside the store. According to the Herald, the driver sustained upper body and facial injuries while one person inside the store suffered leg and knee injuries and another in the store suffered an elbow injury. Medford Fire told the Herald the vehicle was removed from the building and the city building department found it did not hit any structural component or gas or electrical supplies. A CVS spokesman told the newspaper they hope the store will re-open as soon as possible. The store's drive-through window is open regular …

Police Identify Medford Bank Robbery Suspect

East Cambridge Savings Bank robbed at 243 Salem St. in Medford Wednesday.

Medford Police have identified the suspect in Wednesday afternoon's robbery at the East Cambridge Savings Bank on Salem Street as Robert Cornejo, 26, of Russell Street in Malden. Police said Cornejo has been charged with armed robbery while masked and faces arraignment today in Somerville District Court. Cornejo is alleged to have entered the bank at 243 Salem St. shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday wearing a ski mask and passed a note to a teller saying he had a gun and demanded money. Police said a dye pack exploded in a bag with money given to Cornejo. After a description of a gray Volkswagen as a getaway vehicle was circulated to local law enforcement, a similar vehicle driven by a female was stopped in Chelsea. The driver was interviewed …

Medford Bank Robbed, Malden Man Arrested

Suspect allegedly passed a note at East Cambridge Savings Bank saying he had a gun while demanding money.

A man from Malden was arrested Wednesday afternoon shortly after he allegedly robbed the East Cambridge Savings Bank at 243 Salem St. in Medford. Medford Police Capt. Kevin Faller said the suspect was arrested in Malden could not provide his name. Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis said the arrest took place at a Russell Street home in his city. Faller said the suspect is being charged with armed robbery while masked. According to Faller, the suspect entered the bank around 2:53 p.m. Wednesday wearing a ski mask and handed a note to the teller that said he had a gun and demanded money. Medford to Implement New 911 Info System

Smart911 program will allow public safety to have specific information about residences in case of emergency.

The City of Medford will be implementing a new 911 information system aimed at better helping public safety personnel responses to emergencies. Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn said at a press conference last week the system will allow individuals to "put together their own profile so when police and fire are responding, they will know the needs of that individual." McGlynn said a similar system had been used in the past but they included forms that needed to be filled out and entered manually. "This process will be much smoother," he said. McGlynn said Medford will be the first city in the state to implement the program from Framingham-based Smart911. New Equipment Coming For Medford Police, Fire

New school security system being also implemented.

Equipment upgrades are on the way for Medford Police and Fire personnel, according to Mayor Michael McGlynn. The city is planning to purchase five new police cruisers for the Medford Police Department and three new command vehicles for the Medford Fire Department, McGlynn said recently. New cruisers will cost the city and initial payment of about $50,000, while the first payment on the new fire command vehicles will cost about $35,000. McGlynn said the fire deparment currently has several command vehicles that are "somewhat aged." McGlynn also added the city is in the process of implementing the new security system for Medford's schools. The system will have streaming video and will be hooked in to the city's 911 center. Ie. trucking violations in Harvard street, speeding cars in Willis and Harvard streets, permit parking enforcement?? We might want to learn from mayor Curtatone in Somerville..he is rebuilding the city from violation revenues....you cannot sneeze in So reveille without getting a speeding or parking ticket!   more ›

Fire Displaces Two Medford Families Tuesday

The American Red Cross assisted two families that included a total of 12 people from a Chipman Street dwelling.

UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.: Medford Fire Deputy Chief Scott Graham said no one was injured in the Chipman Street fire, which started in the basement of the dwelling and was contained there by responding companies. Graham said the cause of the fire is under investigation. The home suffered smoke damage to the first and second floors and water damage in the basement, according to Graham. Crews on scene stretched a line into the home and through an "aggressive interior attack" were able to prevent the fire from spreading further.
