'Rough Days Ahead' as Region, Nation Grieve Officer Sean Collier

Wilmington native and Somerville resident Sean Collier is remembered as a national hero after he was shot and killed in the line of duty on Thursday night.

Thursday night was the final shift for Sean Collier. But the waning moments of the 26-year-old’s life will never be forgotten. “His life was short,” said Somerville Deputy Police Chief Paul Upton. “But his impact was great.” The Somerville resident and Wilmington native was identified on Friday as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Officer shot and killed on Thursday in his police car. His death led to the manhunt for two Boston Marathon bombing suspects, one who was killed and a second who was captured hiding in a boat behind a Watertown home. Medford Man Arrested on Heroin Charges After Stakeout in Somerville

At one point, alleged heroin suppliers parked right in front of an undercover investigator, according to a police report.

Somerville Police arrested three people including a Medford man after staking out a home in the Ten Hills neighborhood. The home was under investigation for allegedly being tied to heroin distribution, according to police reports. The reports do not identify the address of the "target residence," which is in the same neighborhood Somerville's mayor calls home, but they describe the scene on Dec. 7 when undercover officers put the residence under surveillance. According to one report, undercover investigators were observing the home at about 2:10 p.m., having learned heroin suppliers were supposed to stop by that afternoon.
