Governor has made transportation funding a key part of his agenda.
Gov. Deval Patrick visited two of Medford's Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) facilities Wednesday in an effort to highlight his push for transportation funding. Patrick visited the MBTA Fellsway bus garage at 465 Salem St. and then the Wellington Station maintenance garage, where numerous Orange Line trains were being serviced. "There's a tremendous amount of consensus, in and out of the Statehouse...that it's time for re-investment in our transportation infrastructure," Patrick told reporters at Wellington. When asked if the figure of $800 million that's been floated recently would be sufficient, Patrick said it would be a "mistake" to start with a number and work backwards. Suspects reportedly arrested in Medford after a report for an assault at Wellington Station.
UPDATE, 9:45 a.m.: MBTA Deputy Press Secretary Kelly Smith said Transit Police were dispatched to Wellington at 12:18 a.m. Wednesday for "a disturbance involving two individuals engaged in a fight where there was punching and kicking." Smith said one suspect was arrested on scene and the other fled, however Smith said his identity has been learned and "he will be summonsed to court." Big changes could be coming to the MBTA. Patch breaks down the impact to you, the rider and wants to hear what Medford has to say about potential changes.
The MBTA recently released this document detailing a plan for potential fare increases and service reductions for the entire MBTA transit system. The biggest change for Medford comes if the second of the two proposed “scenarios” passes. Scenario two would impact the bus lines in Medford quite dramatically. The 355 Express Bus would be eliminated for weekday services as well as completely removing the 95 and 96 buses from service. The 101 and 94 would be sparred completely from a reform. There are also a host of buses going out of Wellington Station that will be affected, although the above mentioned are the only ones that travel through Medford.
