Medford Braces For Another Snow Storm

Another 4 to 8 inches of snow could fall in Medford starting Wednesday night through Friday morning, according to forecasters, as another storm heads towards southern New England.

Punxsutawney Phil's prognostication back on Groundhog Day for an early spring is increasingly looking like a cruel joke on the public. Medford could see between 4 and 8 inches of snow starting Wednesday night through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), which issued a winter storm watch on Tuesday night. "There is still some uncertainty with snowfall amounts, but this storm will have a significant impact on southern New England," the NWS said.  The forecast calls for a chance of rain showers during the day on Wednesday, as the high temperature will hover near 42 degrees with a steady northeast wind between 13 and 21 miles per hour and gusts as high as 36 miles per hour. Medford: How Are You Dealing With the Storm?

Some details on the aftermath of the biggest snowstorm in years.

The snow has stopped, but the work of cleaning up from one of the biggest snowstorms in local history is just getting ramped up. Between Friday and Saturday, Medford saw upwards of two feet of snow. All across the city, people have begun the process of digging out. On Saturday, the city made a reverse 911 call with a message from Medford Mayor Michael J. McGlynn, which said that 108 plows, both city and private contractors, have been working to clear city streets. We heard from a lot of people on Facebook Saturday who were still waiting for their street to be plowed even as the evening approached. Calling the Medford DPW seemed to do the trick for some. There were only two power outages in Medford reported by National Grid as of 8 a.m. …

Good for you Kathy. Our street is not plowed well with that driver. It seemed like he didn't put this blade down as close to the pavement as possilbe. He left ruts. Thank God an emergency vehicle was not needed on our street, as in the past when they couldn't get down the street to Maureen's house and had to walk down the street with their medical equipment. Latest Blizzard Forecast for Medford

Blizzard warning goes into effect at 6 a.m.

The National Weather Service is continuing to call the storm expected to hit the region as a "potential historic" one that has been upgraded from a blizzard watch to a blizzard warning. The blizzard warning goes into effect at 6 a.m. and will last until 1 p.m. Saturday. The NWS said winds are expected to gust up to 60 mph today. Medford Public Schools Closed Friday

Decision made early ahead of what's expected to be an historic blizzard.

Medford Public Schools will be closed Friday due to the impending blizzard expected to hit the area. In a statement posted on the district website, Superintendent Roy Belson said the notice was being posted early "so as to allow parents/guardians to make appropriate arrangements for the coverage and care of their children if they are required to report to work."
