Three Face Cocaine Charges After Jerome St. Raid

One of the arrested, John Viera, was a victim in a shooting that killed his son in 2011.

Three people were charged with cocaine-related offenses in Tuesday morning's raid at 55 Jerome St. in Medford. One of those arrested was John Viera, 62, of that address, who was a victim in the Feb. 2011 shooting at the residence that killed his son, John Hatch, 36. Medford Police Capt. Kevin Faller could not provide details on any possible links between the two cases, referring those questions to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office. One person, Gerald Sullivan of Charlestown, was charged in the summer of 2011 in connection with the shooting. Viera was charged with a single count of possession to distrbute cocaine. Speeding Stop Leads to Cocaine Bust in Medford

A State Police K-9 sniffed out the drugs in a hidden compartment inside the van, police said.

A routine speeding stop last week near Fulton Street led to the discovery of nearly two ounces of cocaine in a hidden compartment of a mini-van, according to a police report. Police allegedly found 14 plastic bags containing 1/8 ounce of cocaine each, and two one-gram bags of cocaine in a hidden compartment in the floor of a van driven by Seymour Hernandez-Garcia, 28, of Peabody on Friday. The discovery came after a State Police K-9 searched the van and police obtained a search warrant to open the hidden compartment, according to a police report. Hernandez-Garcia was arrested near the intersection of Fulton Street and St. Clare Road about 10:30 a.m. Friday and charged with trafficking cocaine, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and …

Great work by the MSP pooch and MPD. People fly down that stretch all the time. My guess is they had reasonable cause to search because the operator was acting suspiciously. They ordered him out + asked for permission to search. The suspect agreed and thats when he was taken into custody.   more ›
