Big Changes Planned for Lawrence Memorial Hospital

Partners HealthCare System is purchasing Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Partners HealthCare System announced it has signed an agreement to purchase Hallmark Health hospitals, including Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, reported The Boston Globe.

The plan includes converting Lawrence Memorial from an acute care hospital with 134 beds to a short-stay hospital with 20 to 40 beds. It would also renovate the 234-bed Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, according to The Globe.

“This is all about how we coordinate care, putting the right care in the right place while emphasizing our commitment to community needs,” Partners chief executive Gary L. Gottlieb said in an interview with The Globe.
