How Did Medford Students Do on MCAS?

Medford students tested just below the state average in all three categories, English, mathematics and science and technology, on the 2013 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) tests.

The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recently released the test results. The tests were taken last spring.

English

In English, Medford students tested 14 percent advanced, 51 percent proficient, 27 percent needs improvement and 9 percent warning failing. Statewide, students tested, 19, 50, 23 and 8 percent, respectively.

Mathmematics

In mathematics, Medford students tested 21 percent advanced, 31 percent proficient, 30 percent needs improvement and 18 percent warning failing. Statewide, students tested, 28, 33, 25 and 14 percent, respectively.

Science and Technology

In science and technology, Medford students tested 14 percent advanced, 38 percent proficient, 36 percent needs improvement and 12 percent warning failing. Statewide, students tested, 16, 37, 35 and 12 percent, respectively.
