Andre Chiefs Pitcher Has Absurd Regular Season

Jared Freni, a starting pitcher for the Andre Chiefs, dominated Intercity League batters all summer, as his team topped the standings with a 24-6 record to earn a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Freni, a former UMass pitcher from Malden and Malden Catholic High School, started 10 games for the Chiefs, going 10-0 with a 0.51 ERA.

Freni struck out 110 batters in 69.1 innings and only allowed 22 hits, 15 walks and 5 earned runs.

Freni averaged a whopping 1.59 strikeouts per inning during the season and had a WHIP of 0.53.

As impressive as his overall season was, his first six starts were even more absurd, as he never allowed more than one hit, and in five of the six starts had at least 13 strikeouts.

The defending-champion Chiefs open postseason play against the winner of the Arlington Trojans vs. Reading Bulldogs at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Malden Catholic High School.
